How Much Money Does Linus Tech Tips Earn From YouTube?
The channel was started back in November 2008 and as of 2020 it has over 10 million subscribers amassing over 4 billion views since then. In a day the channel gets an average of 2.6 million views per day and this in turn generates around $10,400 per day which adds up to around $3.8 million a year from YouTube ads. Linus usually has direct advertising at the end of majority of his videos which usually pay much higher than YouTube ads.
YouTubers get paid $2 – $7 per 1000 monetized views after YouTube takes its cut. Monetized views range from 40% – 80% of the total views. All these are influenced by several factors like device played on, the location of the viewer, ad inventory, how many ads there are on a video, how many people skip the ads, type of advertisement, ad engagement, type of content etc. The cost of an ad view is based on an auction between advertisers based on views. Advertisers have to bid a minimum of $0.01 per view.
There is also a program known as Google Preferred where deep-pocketed companies can target ads on the top 5% most popular content. The ad rates here are higher than normal. Apart from ads, YouTubers also generate extra from YouTube Red viewers who pay a monthly fee to view premium content on YouTube plus watch videos without ads. Here they get paid based on watch time on their videos. The longer the viewers watch their videos, the more money they earn.
Half of LMG’s revenue comes from YouTube ads on their videos on YouTube, Amazon Affiliate links from Amazon Associates and Vessel which is a video subscription site where people can access content earlier than everyone else. The other half of the company’s earnings come from sponsored projects where they do paid reviews on items, pre-roll and integration ads, patrons, merchandise sales, event coverage and earnings from Tech Quickie, Techlinked & Wan Show. Some of the companies that have sponsored Linus Media Group are Amazon, Dyson, Intel, Google, Fiverr, Lenovo, Dollar Shave Club, CableMod, iBuyPower, T Mobile and many others
